The restitution of the Acropolis of Athens in the fifth century B.C
(from a photograph taken in the British museum)

The Statue of Athena Promachos (in arms), sculptured by Phidies, was made of bronze and was nine meter high. It was erected thanks to the plunders of the Median wars. It was carried away by Justinian to Constantinopole ; it disappeared during one of the sieges of the town.
