THE PARTHENON

Athena’s birth was represented on the East pediment. The only elements left are on the one hand the heads of the horses belonging to Helios whose chariot defined the time of day, the dawn and on the other hand the reclining figure of Dionysos (on the left side); but, this is only a copy: the.originals , as most of the Parthenon sculptures, are in the British Museum (see below). Click on the head of the horse on the right side (drawing the chariot of the moon) to see the original which is in the British Museum. The restoration of this pediment shows that the statues of the main figures(Athena and zeus) have been lost.
