THE
PARTHENON
|
Athena’s birth was represented on the East
pediment. The only elements left are on the one hand the heads of the
horses belonging to Helios whose chariot defined the time of day, the dawn
and on the other hand the reclining figure of Dionysos (on the left side);
but, this is only a copy: the.originals , as most of the Parthenon
sculptures, are in the British Museum (see below). Click on the head of
the horse on the right side (drawing the chariot of the moon) to see the
original which is in the British Museum. The restoration of this pediment
shows that the statues of the main figures(Athena and zeus) have been lost. |

Reconstitution du
fronton est (musée de l'Acropole) : Athéna sort toute armée de la tête de
Zeus, les autres dieux assistent à la scène, à l'angle gauche, le char du
soleil émerge de l'océan, dans l'angle droit, le char de la lune plonge dans
l'océan.
