ATHENA NIKE

Athena is also honoured on the Acropolis by another monument, which is currently being restored * : the temple of Athena Nike (victorious). It is a little temple, situated at the top of a tall tower (pyrgo), it was built by the architect Callicrates in pentilic marble, in the second half of the Vth century B.C. (*a photo taken in 1981).
According to the legend, Aegeus watched the return of his son Theseus, from the top of the pyrgos.
