THE  PANATHENAEA

THE NORTH FRIEZE : ACR (slab 10). A group of six thallophorae, old magistrates holding olive branches, the second one putting a wreath on his head. The magistrates, still in office, strategists, archons, prytanis, took part in the procession as well. The magistrates are elected are drawn by lots. They embody a political function or more precisely democracy. The Athenians wanted to display to everybody the superiority of their political regime.
